How To Clean Dust
- Providing detailed and practical advice
- A how-to or a how to is an informal, often short, description of how to accomplish some specific task. A how-to is usually meant to help non-experts, may leave out details that are only important to experts, and may also be greatly simplified from an overall discussion of the topic.

Dust Test 3
The last cleaning was via the "Photographic Solutions SENSOR SWAB" and the Eclipse liquid. I did not expect much more improvemnt over the dramatic results I already had but I gave it a whirl. OMG. Clean. ok the image is here to show you - I can see 2 spots of interest. There were 20+ significate spots just the one dusting previous to this.
(may look perfect to you, and this one alomost IS! - so open up with ALL SIZES link on top and view a much larger resolution image to see just how effective these SENSOR SWABs are)
There are brushes too. Not cheap either. I opted out of that path.
Air then liquid with some good test shots before and after each. This is what I can say works great. Now go read the advice of others - use only the quality stuff, read all the instructions on the web and the products, go slow, be careful, and take better shots. If you don't think you can do it yourself - at least take some sample shots before so you can judge your results and the coin you dish out to a pro for the cleaning.
I have been concerned about fungus on two of my lenses and thought I had to send them off to be cleaned professionally. After looking at the lenses yesterday, I saw two nothces (see arrows on left lens) that were probably designed for a special tool. I don't have the "whatever you call it" tool but I was able the unscrew the lens element by hand and remove it. I am happy to report that I successfully cleaned the fungus off of the elements on both lenses without having to send them off. I understand that the fungus may return later but at least now I know how to clean it myself. It was easy to do so if you ever come across a similar problem, look closely at your lens, you may be able to CAREFULLY clean it yourself. This is probably old news but for now, I'm ecstatic.
